Spiderman PEZ – Dispensers and variations

Spiderman has been a regular character in popular culture for many years. He has been popular ever since his first appearance in the comic book “Amazing fantasy #15” in 1962.

As a PEZ dispenser Spiderman been very popular, and has been released several times through the years. Below are the different Spiderman releases and known variations of the dispenser.

1978 – Spiderman A

Spiderman A was first released in 1978. The dispenser has been released both in cello and on card. This dispenser came on both a red and a yellow stem. The yellow version is hard to find.

Spiderman A variations

There are primarily two variations of Spiderman A. These are easy to tell apart. The most common variation has the spiderweb molded to his entire head, while the uncommon variation is missing the spiderweb on the back of his head.

The version without the web on the back of the head is also cast in a slightly darker red color than the common version.

The common version is shown on the left, the uncommon version on the right.

Another difference between the two versions is that the uncommon version does not have white paint on the eyes, while the common version normally has white paint.

1991 – Spiderman B

In 1991 there was a new release of the spiderman dispenser. The character had a new design and a new mold.

Spiderman B variations

Spiderman B comes on both a common red stem and a harder to find yellow stem.

2000 – Spiderman C

In 2000 the third Spiderman was released. This time it came on both a red and a blue stem. Both stemcolors are common.

2009 – Spiderman D

Spiderman D was released in 2009. No known variations exist of this dispenser.

2012 – Spiderman E

In 2012 we got the latest release of Spiderman. It was released on both a blue and a red stem, but this time the character had a full torso instead of just a head.

Batman PEZ

Some pictures in this post are borrowed from

Batman has been a popular character in the world of PEZ since it was first released in 1966. There have been many different Batman dispensers through the years, and new ones are still being released in connection with movie releases etc.

The Batman dispenser is one of the dispensers that have been released the most number of times, and has the most number of versions. In the PEZ world the collectors assign different designations for dispensers that have several versions. The first release will always have the designation A, and the second release will have the designation B. A new designation will be assigned when a dispenser character has a new casting mold, so that the appearance is changed well beyond what would be considered a variation of an older dispenser. There can be different variations of dispensers that have the same designation.

Batman A

Batman A is the designation for the very first Batman PEZ-dispenser that was released. It was released for the first time in 1966, but the same dispenser mold was also used when releasing it again in the 90’s.

  • The first release of the Batman dispenser featured a normal dispenser, but also a special release that had a rubber cape. The version with a cape is much harder to find than the regular version.
  • Fake reproduced capes do exist. They are typically stiffer and thicker than the original that is made of soft and thin rubber.

  • When the Batman dispenser was released again in the 90’s the head was the same as on the first release. The only difference was that the stem now had feet, since these were introduced on all dispensers in the late 1980’s.
  • This new Batman dispenser can be found with a peach colored face, and also with a pale pink face.
  • There is also a version that has a red stem. This version was made by PEZ home workers in Europe.

Original or remake?

Even if the heads of the original and remake batman look the same, it is possible to tell them apart. The head on the left is the original.

  • An original Batman head will have this marking on the back of the head:
    • Sign Nat’l Periodical Pub’s Inc.
  • The new release from the 90’s will have this marking on the back of the head:
    • DC Comics Inc 1985

1995 – New color

  • In 1995 the Batman dispenser was released for the third time. This time the dispenser had a black mask and a black stem.
  • The dispenser was also released with a black mask and a blue stem.

  • There were also versions released that had red and yellow stems, but these are a bit harder to find.
  • Other stem colors exist for this dispenser, but the legitimacy of these variations is hard to determine.

Batman B

  • In 1996 a brand new Batman dispenser was released. The change in casting mold gave us a brand new look, and this dispenser got the designation Batman B, because it was totally different than the Batman A dispensers.
  • When Batman B was released in 1996 it came in two variations. One with a dark blue mask and stem, and one with a dark blue mask and a light blue stem.
  • Batman B originally has very pointy ears on the mask. This was considered to be dangerous for children, so when it was released again in 1998 the ears were more rounded off.

  • In 1998 the revised version of the Batman B dispenser was released. It featured more rounded ears than the original Batman B dispenser.
  • The two Batman B versions can be found with several different face colors. From almost white to skin colored.

Batman – C

  • In 2008 PEZ released what is now called Batman C. A brand new casting mold made this the third main version of the Batman dispenser.
  • Batman C was first released with a silver/gray stem. It was also later released in a gift set where the stem had gotten a printed Batman logo.

Batman – D

  • In 2011 the Batman dispenser had another new look. This became the Batman D. This release is different from the earlier releases because it featured the entire torso of the character on top of the stem. These type of dispensers are called torso-PEZ, and were very common in the 2010’s to make the dispensers more regocnizable.

  • In 2016 PEZ released a new version of the Batman D, but this release had a new color scheme and a new Batman logo
  • This version was only released in Europe

Batman – E

  • In 2016 there were two different Batman dispensers released. This last release has gotten the designation E.
  • This version was initially only released in the US
  • The reason there were two different releases was that there were two different movie releases this year. The two different movie universes had a different look for the Batman character, and that is why there were two different dispensers released.
